In the East district, the Freeman Homestead Trail is a gentle 1-mile loop past interpretive signs and a historic homestead site, making it ideal for families and first-time desert hikers.
Challenging hikes with big views
For a tougher outing, the Hugh Norris Trail in the West climbs steadily along a ridgeline with sweeping views over the saguaro forest below. The King Canyon Trail to Wasson Peak rewards a strenuous 7-mile round trip with 360-degree views from the highest point in the Tucson Mountains. The Loma Verde Loop in the East is a flatter 3.8-mile option through a mesquite bosque that is excellent for bird watching.

Each district has its own visitor center where you can pick up maps, check ranger recommendations, and learn about the desert ecosystem before you set out on the Saguaro National Park hiking trails.
